Small Pots Have Ears Too Zine

Zine

Japan

'Small Pots Have Ears Too'
A5 zine in english
This zine was created during my month-long stay at Studio Kura AiR programme in rural Fukuoka, Japan.
It is a poeti comic zine inspired by a local urban legend of Inunaki village that used to exist more than 300 years ago, but was abandoned and sealed off from the public. The village has grown lonely and calls out to strangers through a payphone call. If you pick up the phone, you will be transported to the village, and shown around until you eventually get stabbed by your tourguide so you can stay there forever.
I fused this story with japanese philosophy Tsukumogami that suggests that objects that are in existance for more than 100 years gain a soul. These objects are the once that call out from the abandoned village through the phone, and the lonely tools are waiting in the village to greet you.

The title is inspired by a danish saying: "Små gryder har også ører", which means that if you gossip or lie, you never know who or WHAT might be listening.

The pages of the zine was painted with gouache, greasesticks and colored pencil, and was visually inspired by my sourroundings in the traditional japanese house in the village I was staying in during the residency.

We had a group exhibit at the end of my stay that was well attended, and when I got back to Copenhagen i had an exhibit and zine release at Galleri Ørn after having it printed and published at Spektakel Press in beautiful risoink.
